Our family first moved to Golden Meadow, LA in June of 1979 where I served as Minister of Youth, Music, and Education where First Baptist Church allowed me to attend New Orleans Seminary as long as I kept up the hours and ministry of the church. Those were 8 of the finest years of my life, as I learned how to minister, grew my family and ultimately became a pastor. But in those early years, with the cost of Seminary and travel to and from Golden Meadow, plus a lower salary than we were used to it was impossible to buy a pirogue much less a boat and motor. And this is one place you will want to fish, it was simply amazing the amount of fish you could catch. I was blessed to fish with the pastor and others who would invite me to go with them, but Gilda and the kids were left out. So, we began to fish off the banks of the bayou, under bridges, or in areas protected from traffic. Then we were told about fishing "the rocks"! Wow, what a difference in the amount of fish we began to catch. "The rocks" are the artificial jetties at the mouth of Bayou Lafourche where it dumps into the Gulf of Mexico. It was hard walking, but we learned that the closer to the mouth of the jetties, the more fish and bigger fish we would catch. Thus began about 3 yrs. of family fishing outings (I finally got the boat). We had been contented with catching the occasional small flounder, or sand trout (like a perch) because it was all we knew, but when we learned where and how to catch speckled trout, red fish, flounders and the occasional Spanish Mackerel, we never went back to the banks and bridges of Bayou Lafourche. That is how it is with spiritual growth. You may be enjoying your relationship with the Lord and the fruit it brings you, but if you will trust those who have gone before you, those who have found better understanding of spiritual things plus bigger and better fruit, you will not be contended with what you now have. Take the dare, walk toward the deeper water, and find the awesome blessings the Lord has in store for you. The scripture? Eph 3:20-21 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.
