Growing up our home did not have air conditioning or central heating. Like most folks of that time we were blessed to have an attic fan and space heaters. Those heaters worked wonderfully to warm up a house but they sure could cause problems. Nothing was more aggravating than to be standing half asleep in front of the heater and have your brother sneak up and pull your pajamas up against your legs. Wow! Those pj’s could really get hot. But as aggravating as that could be the greatest danger was to stand too close and have them catch on fire. That happened to me one cold morning when my flannel night shirt caught on fire. I began to quickly unbutton the shirt but it was burning faster than my fingers could move, then suddenly that aggravating brother who would pull those pj’s against my legs, was beating out the flames with his bare hands. I don’t remember much about what happened to his hands or my back, but I will always remember him disregarding his own safety to protect his little brother. Thank you Johnny. Though that was a heroic moment for Johnny, we have an even greater hero as our brother. His name is Jesus (Rom 8:16-17 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs -- heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ). He not only disregarded His own safety; He willfully died in our place. (Rom 5:8...“while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”)  As much as my brother loved me and still does, his love can only affect me here and now while this brother, Jesus, will be with us here and now…. and forevermore. Thank you, Jesus.
